Mystery Loves Company…
When choosing an outfit for a special occasion or just a casual night out, always strategically decide what skin to bare. It should never be too much. If you have a high slit showing those smooth legs, than be modest with the top. If you have a plunging neck line than go for a sleek bottom. Where’s the mystery in showing it all?….EXACTLY, there is none! Leave a little to the imagination and you’ll be remembered.
The photo below feature’s a Candace Elena Couture piece that’s modest at first glance, but making a statement at the second!

California Love
Â
Happy Thursday and a Happy Belated 4th of July to you all!! I trust everyone had an amazing holiday and attempted to stay cool! My apologies for not posting this past week, I have been away on business AND pleasure travel. Now that traveling has slowed and I’ve had the chance to some catch up on some much needed relation, its back to business as usual. I’m working with some new clients and will have some great items to share with you all in the near future!
One of my recent destinations was the indescribable city of San Diego, California. This was my first time visiting the state of California, so I was super excited that my first time there was in such a beautiful city. San Diego is filled with tons of state parks, beaches, and fabulous cuisine! When I wasn’t taking in gorgeous scenery or eating a great meal, I was probably sleep! I even got to dip my feet the Pacific Ocean for the very first time and yikes was it cold!
Two places I visited were Balboa Park, an urban cultural park, and Coronado Island, a resort city that lies on a peninsula connected to the mainland by a 10-mile isthmus. If you can’t find peace at either of these locations you won’t find it anywhere. I couldn’t help but find inspiration for some of my pieces while enjoying these attractions. Whether it was the architecture of a historical building or a shade in the skyline, San Diego most definitely had my creative juices flowing. I can’t wait to put the ideas into production! Photos from the trip can be viewed below.

She Got Her Own? Oh Yes She Does!
Last week I had the honor of participating in an event titled She Got Her Own, a reception and mini showcase for female entrepreneurs. She Got Her Own took place at Element, a chic club in the East Village, and drew out a nice size crowd of young, ambitious women AND men! Several vendors, including myself, were scattered about the club with their products and services on display and some even for sale! There was also a panel discussion that place where six accomplished female entrepreneurs talked about their journeys towards starting their own businesses and provided tips on how to manage a growing business while maintaining a “day job”. The panelists included:
Jamilah B Creekmur (Sr. Business Development Consultant & Owner, JBC Consulting Group)
Sepideh Nasiri (Director, Â All Things Offline, Women 2.0)
Carol Watson (CEO, Tangerine-Watson)
Demetria Lucas (Founder and CEO, A Belle in Brooklyn)
Yoli Ouyia (Founder, Yolisgreenliving.com)
Karen Tappin (Founder & CEO, Karen’s Body Beautiful)
She Got Her Own allowed the vendors to not only display and sell their products and services, but also to personally interact with key consumers and receive feedback. The event was an intimate platform that allowed guests to network, mix and mingle, and become knowledgeable about some of the area’s up and coming female entrepreneurs!
I showcased a few Candace Elena Couture items that evening and had the pleasure of working amongst some pretty awesome women! I loved that I got to speak one-on-one with the women who Candace Elena Couture is made for. Directly hearing the clothing needs of the women who I design for gave me some insight that I cannot wait to apply! I found that many women are struggling with the inability to find items they want in the stores and were enlightened that Candace Elena Couture provides just that! View snapshots from She Got Her Own below!

RE: Transitioning Dreams to Reality - First Custom Fitting (Birthday Edition)
UPDATE!! I did a post a couple weeks ago documenting a fitting for a birthday dress and promised that there would be a follow-up post; here it is! This dress is actually the original use of the fabric from the “Spring Fever, Tribal Tribute” post with the pencil skirt. Anyhow, the dress turned out fabulous! Hawa Forkpa, the gorgeous birthday girl wore it like no other could. The dress complimented her body type and literally fit like a glove!
This past Friday night I ventured back to Cornell University’s Weill Cornell Medical College campus for a pregame and then to Taj Lounge for the birthday party. Hawa’s group took over a study lounge on campus before we all hopped into cabs bound for our final destination at Taj Lounge. While still in the study lounge we danced, enjoyed “spirits” and indulged on some delicious strawberry shortcake one of Hawa’s cooking inclined classmates baked. Oh, AND had a mini photo shoot!
After finally arriving at Taj Lounge the group had a great time on the dance floor. The birthday girl seemed to have the BEST time and receive the MOST compliments! The dress was perfect for the occasion and humbly made the grandest statement of the night! Hawa’s dress features a multi-colored zig-zag print, ¾ sleeve, backless design, removable back strap, and a hand sewn braided trim. Can you say fierce?! Check out the snapshots below from the evening!
